after a nice vacation to the Great Smokie mountains area, Ang & I were fortunate to happen upon a peddle car show (her idea...she found it) , the venders also had many vintage tin toy cars & trucks & just a few steam type items. here is one of the 2 items that I was fortunate enough to land.
I would like to know what the red tube handle thingy is though....any help in this application please.
Charlie helped me with the ID
here we have vintage steam powered launch, designed & manufactured by David A. Auld of Greymouth, N.Z.
This model Steam Launch was produced by David Auld in 1988/1989 according to Bruce Macdonald the author of the book "Spring, Spark & Steam, An illustrated guide to Australasian toy & model trains". (thanks Charlie M.)
it is in unfired near mint condition, she is 33" long & the beam is
5. 1/2" across, 4. 1/2" tall at the boiler & 7. 1/4" tall at the smoke stack, she weighs 5.4 lbs. it has a very nicely laid fiberglass hull & she cuts a handsome shape. I can tell she's unfired from the Lilly white insulation around the firebox, the new looking & unfired burner & the safety valve, the prior owner also told me it was unfired (I always prove this to myself though) she has very few blemish's ....a few scratches on the cabin roof , a couple of tiny smudges on the hull , but probably the most "sound" unfired vessels of this type that I will ever have the pleasure of owning again. she has a red apparatus that I am not sure of the use, but firmly believe it belongs with this vessel.
