Looks like the same one i received a couple of days ago for much the same reasons .
But I think  you were  using yours wrong .
 The small knob is for rapid movement
The large outer knob is for measuring as it has a inbuilt slip clutch to give the correct pressure for accurate readings

Yep, I was just trying to get it moving as fast as possible so as not to bore the snot out of everyone watching.

And yep, someone on YT said that piece of metal was for the battery cover, its not needed as its just a normal slot......had me stuffed what it was because of the weird shape.

Mic is pretty good for forty bucks though.
