Jensen 20g Steam Engine Driven Leonardo DaVinci Mechanical Drum.
This was a lot of fun to make and to modify, the mods made the kit a real model or toy steam engine accessory. Its extremely loud in use!
It was easy to spray paint the kit before assembly and to make the drive pulley on my metal lathe out of aluminum and the drive belt is O ring super glued together. The timber plinth I routed is just plain stained pine and three coats of marine spar varnish.

How cool is that, but superbly loud as you mentioned. I like the cladding you put on your 20G steam line, also how you installed an inline oiler on it! How did you do that? Jensen steam line is insanely robust.

Maybe it is just me, but I'm thinking you need major gear reduction between that engine and the DaVinci drum!

I'm talking slow enough so that you can distinguish each individual drum beat. Smallest pulley on the engine flywheel shaft to the biggest pulley on the generator, then the smallest pulley on the generator to the biggest pulley on a line shaft, then smallest pulley on that line shaft to the biggest pulley you can fit on the drum.

Then run the engine just as slow as it will go!

You can damper the sound by putting some cloth rags inside the drum.

That's a DIY inline oiler, Geoff (Demon) told me how to make them and it works well. Dremel cuts through the steam line like butter.

Yep needs to go through one of the transmissions that I have machined up over the years Dnaiel, this was a test to see if it all held together.....plus I need more room, so that means going outside and its cold here.....Not England cold or Northern USA states cold, but sure is Aussie cold

I wanted to give you a shout out on the video Charlie, but the noise was deafening. No joke I had hearing protection on running the engine.
