Hawekotte & Klausmann Aerial Swings

The Hawekotte & Klausmann Toy & Novelty Company (H&K) began about 1907 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

In 1908, H&K was issued a patent for an Electromagnetic Toy Steam Engine, and the manufacture of electric toys and accessories began in earnest. The last references to H&K as an operating business were in 1921.

It is unclear as to the number of toy items that H&K produced because they marked many of their products with a paper label which tended to fall off.

The above historical information comes from Don Stinson’s 2006 booklet, “H-K, Hawekotte & Klausman Toy and Novelty Company”.  Mr. Stinson credits most of the research for the booklet to Dr. E.E. Taylor of Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Toy in this video was purchased at the Pook & Pook Auction of the Morton A. Hirschberg Steam Toy Collection in February 2009.

Mr Hirschberg included the Toy in his seminal work, “Steam Toys, A Symphony in Motion” on page 151 and describes this Toy as “Merry-go-round with six seats, circa 1920, 23.2d x 38cm. Mounted on a plastic board with an electric motor.”

Neat show Charlie, but I'm hoping there will be "part 2" showing more of those Ives cats and dogs  ;)  What a steal  8)

Thanks Nick.

The Ives cats and dogs are very fragile. I have been patiently working on stabilizing them.

I will definitely try to get some footage soon. Waiting for the glue to dry. 😟

The motor on the H&K “Aerial Swings” was a complete rebuild. I was so excited to get it running....I stopped everything and made the video. 🤠

Very exciting! I ended up with two early electric motors in a recent bundle, but I'm trying to stay away from adding more!! I like them, but no room for them  :D

You can always send them to me. I got six running last night. All had minor issues. I have four more in process.

Great addition Charlie. Is the electric motor H&K also? I have refrained from starting a TOY collection, but i should stop watching your video before I can't resist temptation.

Yes Doug. The H&K electric Engine with the Swings was sold as a package
