Need Help Identifying a Steam Launch
« on: July 08, 2019, 11:17:19 am »
Hello!
Can anyone tell me anything about my French pond steam launch? The maker's label states "Navigable" and "Made in France" but no more. It is 32" long, 6" wide; two deck openings, a forward hatchway (?) and a cabin with portholes but roof is missing. The rudder is outboard with a curved metal strip notched on top to keep the movable tiller in position; the boiler is enclosed in a metal covering with a "smokestack" of about 2" high, 1" diameter; it has a 2-cylinder, osillating, horizontally opposed engine. The connection between the engine and propeller shaft is a wire from the driveshaft bent into a crank handle shape and pressing on a 90 degree bent wire from the propeller shaft. A photo would help you but I have a currently unsolved problem with loading photos. Any help would be of value. I've searched the Internet and found absolutely nothing.

Welcome steamlauncher, you are our 200th registered member here on this rather new Forum. Congratulations on finding us!

I'll try to offer help on posting photos, but might just confuse you. Perhaps best to wait for one of the computer savvy members to chime in, so you get it right the first time. What I do know is that importing images from photobucket works okay.

For posting direct from your computer files, you go two bars below the text window that you write your post in to where it says Attach:

There are two windows there in horizontal line ... go to the right hand narrower window first and select the option from the dropdown menu that reads .... "End-of-post expandable thumbnail".

Next click on "Choose File" in the blue box within the left-hand window and the box will prompt you with "No file chosen" while opening up a window that accesses your computer's files. You must choose the file in your computer where you have the desired photos stored, and double click on the photo you wish to post. That image's code should then appear in that lefthand Attach box and will be ready to appear in your post, but then you also want to return to the right-hand box and get the dropdown menu again and this time choose the option "Inline full-size image".

If you wish to attach more photos, then click the blue highlighted (more attachments) that appears just below that lefthand box, and another identical set of boxes will appear just below the first ones, so just repeat the process again.

Hope that helps with the photo posting, but again, there are others far better at this than I, so perhaps wait to hear from them to help avoid undo frustration.

I would add that we have a deeply knowledgeable French member who will most likely have some idea as to the maker of the boat you are asking about, but as always "a picture is worth a thousand words", so hopefully you will have some posted by the time he looks in.

Cheers, and I hope you enjoy your time among us!!!

Thanks for all the support regarding posting photos of my steamboat. I've tried everything I can think of but all I get is "Some browsers may not support..." I have a Galaxy S4. I can attach photos to text messages but not email. I'll keep trying.
