Available Empire B42
« on: January 03, 2021, 06:55:01 am »
Hello everyone! I am glad I found your forum and hope you can help me out. My father started building steam engines when in high school with a man on his paper route. That man would one day be my grandfather, but my father was much more interested in what my future grandfather was doing in his shop than with his daughter upstairs at the time. Unfortunately, I lost my father a little over three years ago, his completed projects were given to children and grandchildren that had interest in them. What I have left that have been sitting here in boxes are Steam Engines he purchased, kits, a project is process and some tools that I think are only for model making.
I am wanted to offer these items off to the modeling community. In some cases I will not know what it is, what condition it really is in and no idea of the value on any of it. I do not what to start bidding wars. Let me know what it worth to you plus freight, the sale will be based on price, and ease of transaction.
If you happen to recognize the kit and can tell me more about it that would be appreciated. There is a draw with drawings in it so I may have blueprints to go with these kits, once I know more what I am looking for we maybe able to match the sets up.
All of these items are in New Richmond WI, just east of the Twin Cities MN.
I am trying to abide by forum rules, if there is a problem with my posting please let me know and I will correct them.
Thank you in advance for everyone’s interest and assistance, lets get these items in hands of people that will enjoy them and use them.

Hi Bart
As in most steam things ,condition plays a large part in the price, I have seen these sell for as low as $600 to $1500 (for a near perfect example) just on a quick glance it appears the boilers are sound & intact , the base is ok , I noticed that both throttle handles are broken off, the whistle top is missing ...& most important on these, is do the heater's work ? as they are no longer available.

Thanks Bruce for the feedback on the condition, I agree that it needs some work. For testing to see if the heater is good, is taking a ohm meter and testing for continuity work? or how do you suggest it is tested? If you can explain the steps I will check it out. Again thank you for the help!

Bart
I assume an Ohm's meter would work to show an unbroken continuity, I simply put some  water in (both) boilers & see if they each heat up.

Bruce, I added water and wired it up and it heated right up. Ohm meter also showed resistance. The valves that the handles are broken on both are free to move, not sure what had happen in the past. This belonged to my father.
