Empire B35 Steam Turbine -----RUNS...!!!
« on: May 21, 2021, 07:01:09 pm »
It is in very nice condition, especially the plating.

Nice re-paint job on cast iron base and missing the Empire tag. I did not paint it. I only cleaned it.

No power cord. (I borrowed the one in the video from a kitchen appliance)

Heater works great and yes it runs!

See the video.

Asking $250 including lower 48 postage

That is a very nice B-35, if it was the older style "round" sight glass fittings I would be VERY tempted.  My B-35 plating isn't in good shape at all, though I am attached to it a bit as it is the engine that got me into collecting Empires (it was a basket case when I got it).

Hi Rich, If you would like to add this to your collection, I will drop the price to 220 including postage.

Hey Gil, thank you for the offer it is very tempting but I'll have to pass.  I am sure passing on your offer will weigh on me for a bit!

Aside from it being a later model for the sight glass fittings, my OCD would force me to look for a parts only B-35 to get it's label (not easy for a B-35).  You wouldn't believe the lengths I have gone for things like that and the proper whistle toppers.

Hi Rich, I would absolutely believe the lengths you go to to acquire the right part for another engine.

I have been there, done that and understand it..!

Rich, in addition I am glad you mentioned the tag which I had forgotten was missing. It prompted me to call my Empire parts guy and he thinks he may have a tag that can be re-stamped and possibly a couple that have never been stamped.

First, he said he may have a couple blanks and I hope he does.

A couple years ago he bought Dave Robie's entire workshop which had lots of Empire and Weeden parts. For a long time Dave was making to order Empire heating elements although he got harder to do business with as he aged. He never kept anyone's money for a part not delivered but he would have long conversations with you over a period of months and if he couldn't convince himself that he liked you he would send back your uncashed check. A large part of liking you depended on him liking your political views.

I will let you know if any tags come through.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing.  Looks like I missed out on a interesting collector.  Though I like to keep political views out of conversations!

Gil, is this engine still available? I may have a friend who may need it.

Gil....your video and engine look very nice.
They always do.

Watching the video of your sweet-looking B35
inspired me to steam mine up.  Mine looks like
it was beat up quite a bit and stored in an unheated
garage or shed.  At least the heating element was
working, but it did take a bit of this-n-that messing
around to get it to run properly.  I love that
'spooling up' whine.  I added my video of a rough
B35 to balance your beauty. I have another one that
is ugly and hiding on a shelf awaiting my ministrations.
The good, the rough, and the ugly.

Did I mention that the ugly one was painted blue...
It does heat up, the whistle and throttle work smoothly,
and it has the spherical type of sightglass fittings.

And, I overpaid for it on EBAY.  Anyone interested in
a project like this?  I already have a half-dozen projects
backed up since I bought that lot in Bristol Ct.
