I obviously haven't gone to as many antique shops or flea markets as Nick but I have yet to see any steam toys any where (except for 1 place and I think Nick told me to check it out!). As judging by the prices, I am not missing much!

I used to get in my car and head down towards Iowa through all the small towns and stop at every little shop, haven't found much for keepers, but always get a good laugh at the prices  :D  I cannot count the number of times a dealer has carried a Weeden 14 up to the counter and told me how hard they are to find.

When I first started getting into collecting big ('07-ish) I stopped at a mall in Blaine, MN I believe. There were 3 German mobiles with what I thought were high prices. Looking back they were probably fair prices, but I have never found that mall again... probably long gone by now...

@CBWho there is a very large shop in Burnsville, Antiques MN and I remember a few large ones in Rogers. If you get a chance, go to one of the antique shows at the State Fairgrounds, it's hard for me to get to them with the kids, so you might beat me to the deals  ;)
