Got in my Empire short boiler #62 yesterday from a eBay purchase (not slowjoey). The engine was the seller's fathers and thought he got it in 50s or 60s. I am thinking more the 50s as the engine isn't a UL marked engine but I am not really sure when Empire started with UL stampings.
She isn't a beauty queen but then again I been spoiled by the items I have been getting from SlowJoey (from Carl's collection). The engine cleaned up nicely but nearly every area that could leak, leaked!
- Glass seals replaced with: 3/16" ID x 1/4" OD @ 0.2 inches ZerksPlus High Temp Silicone Tubing.
- Lower Pipe nipple from Tank removed and resealed with pipe dope (glad I didn't break this one).
- New paper gaskets around screw fittings (top steam fittings & smoke stack))
- Teflon tape on steam pipe to piston.
- Spare whistle base installed.
- Oil all around the moving parts
Seems to run a bit slow or as compared to my #43 short boiler that is very similar. Though the engine is stamped "300 watts" and my #43 is stamped "350 watts" both @110 volts. Perhaps that extra 50 watts is makes the #43 much faster?
