Empire #62 with Black Paint Scheme
« on: April 26, 2024, 02:06:03 pm »
While I have a #62 this one with the black paint scheme came up on eBay last week, luckily the other fellow didn't fight me much for it.  Aside from the rarer black paint the engine's nickel is in really great shape and wasn't missing any parts.  The heater was a bust and the best that I can tell it wasn't from overheating but from corrosion by letting crap water get down into the heater.  Now I have to buy more nichrome wire, after rebuilding this one I only have a few feet left.  When I bought that spool I didn't think I'd ever use it up LOL

Nice on Rich.

A missing piece from my Empire collection.

Thanks for another great video and congratulations on a successful resurrection.

Photobucket put a watermark right over the firebox and I don’t have the setup here for a new picture, but my factory workshop setup came with a black firebox.

@Nick would love to see more photos, without watermarks.  Perhaps I'll find one of those one day (though I could put one together).

I’ll look tonight, they should be on one of my portable hard drives… I originally bought it for the accessories and took everything off the base and put the Masonite base out in the barn in the lumber pile. I later learned it was original and luckily the base was still at the top of the pile and I still had the mounting hardware!

I know @crazydoug and @txlabman have one.  Crazydoug's is black with nickel cylinder perch, whilst Charlie's is red (seen them on their YouTube channels).  Theirs has the power connection under the sight glass (that seems not so safe) and I can't tell if yours is the same?

Some time last year I saw a #62 (or could have been a #43) that had its power connector under the sight glass, I figured someone had messed with it and disregarded it.  A bit after the sale I saw the workshops YouTubes and I bet it had been for one of those workshops.  After that I wished I had bought it.

Having the grinder & polisher, I could put it on a a masonite board of the proper size.  I doubt a 4th one would ever come up.  Good thing you saved it from the pile, that would have really sucked if you had reused it or thrown it away.

I almost told the seller to ship it without it to save money but his shipping price wasn’t bad and I figured they wouldn’t bounce around loose  if they were mounted on the wood  :D

If you pull it out for new photos (perhaps for your 365 thread) could you get me the dimensions of the masonite board and the exact hardware used?  The more I think of it, putting my red & black #62 together with my grinder & saw sounds like a fun project.

I just need the get the Length/Width/Thickness of the masonite board, then as close as possible the hardware size.  I just wished I had or knew someone with woodworking stuff to cut the board perfectly.  All I have is a sawzall LOL!
