Peake - Vulpine Triple
« on: August 05, 2019, 08:30:02 pm »
Never thought I'd talk Philip into selling this one, but a deal was made... THANK YOU very much!!  ;D ;D

Always a bonus when boxes are small and easy to sneak in the house  ;)

Safely tucked in between some foam

It was getting dark but I had to snap a quick picture in the grass with the phone since that's Philip's trademark  ;)  (his pictures of the engine are much better!)

Sun went down too fast on me, will have to get better pictures tomorrow...

The only way I can see Philip letting go of that engine, is if he had another one or two of them stashed away. That engine and it's monicure and symbol are just too Swift Fox for Philip to be wholly without!

I truly hope I'm correct in this assumption!?!?

Whatever the case may be ..... super nice acquisition Nick!!!

It is one-of-a-kind and as you say a "Swift Fox" engine, but in my attempt to gather as many Peake engines as I could find I thought I would ask, and to my surprise the engine is now here  ;D  I know Philip has plans for a new purchase... maybe already on the way, but I will let him tell that side of the story  ;)

The far left is an early one-off from Geoff's collection. I believe there was another Bodkin that I have seen in one of the toy steam magazines (2nd one in is a Bodkin #2). The No. 5 was sent to the first six buyers as a Venus, but mine is #11/15 making it a Mercury... only difference is Ben added a throttle. There was also a Major offered with a lighter flywheel, as seen above mine has the heavy flywheel. And of course there were a few other one-offs that made it to Canada, but the buyer is MIA...

I have heard rumors from Clinton that Ben was going back into production, but all of my emails to Ben went unanswered. I hope he does as his engines are well-built at a fair price, but I just hope I can afford them when released...  :D

Nick, i'm happy to see it has arrived in one piece!!

I know some of you will be surprised i've let this one go, however Nick did ask me a few years ago if i'd be willing to part with it. I'm aware Nick probably has one of the most complete Peake Engines collections, certainly in the US which is why i was happy for him to have it, since i knew it would be going to a very good home. I've slimmed down my own Peake collection quite a bit over the years and i decided to move this one on to free up funds for another Aussie engine i've desired for quite awhile.

It would be nice if you could get a Bodkin No1 and a Little Wizz to add to that lineup Nick and it is interesting to hear Ben might start producing engines again.

Thanks Philip, I don't know that I have even seen a Bodkin No1 in any collections... and was the Little Wizz more of a one-off than a production piece?

I remember when Ben was releasing these engines you had to check the forum hourly as once they were listed, they were gone fast!

It was the Bodkin No 1E and Ben only made 14 of them if memory serves me right. Yes the Little Wizz was a one off but i think he did make several including an improved version. I'm pretty certain Ben made other one-offs that we will probably never know about or even see.

Yes i remember he was very good at building up interest/marketing for his products and they did sell fast, the only one i never bought was the No 5 as i couldn't afford the high asking price at the time.

Well done gents !  :)

Impressive lineup of Peake engines...
My knowledge on these is relatively restricted, so wondered how many models/variations is needed to complete your collection Nick?
Cheers
