Two Wolfgang Engineering Steam Turbines
« on: December 15, 2019, 11:08:15 pm »
Also see earlier post today in the "wanted" section.

On the left is a "TF10" (the last of 5?), at right another. I can't recall the name of the latter, can anyone refresh my memory? I have had them both for many years.

These engines are incredible when enough PSI is pumped into them, making a loud high-pitched screaming whine that sounds just like a big turbine, and then lasts for minutes as they wind down. Its all about the audio with these.

Too bad it requires dumping almost the entire contents of a 5 gallon air tank at 100 PSI all at once, but it is absolutely worth the trouble!

I remember that TF10 well and definitely should have bought one! I have the perfect air tank for it  ;)

That should be big enough to run them both at the same time!

I think the TF10 was one of his finest models, i had five Wolfgang turbines at one point but have just kept my open air models where you can see the blades in motion. Shame Richard is no longer offering new models as his turbines were some of the best and very affordable.

Thanks Doug for posting the run . My pelton is the only one that has resistance when turned by hand and it is thirsty on air . I have run my TS 532 with 5 :1 gear reduction on17 psi of air running 4 Jensen gens . However when I tried to run off a 3" Jensen boiler @ 660 watts and starting at 30 psi it would not spool up . I think the big turbine acted as a heat sink killing the steam . I ment to work on insulation of the turbine  but but have not yet .

Not all of Richard's turbines were intended for steam operation. He made several that were for compressed air powering only, if I recall correctly.

I had one that would only work on steam and not on air. Go figure...

Great video of the Pelton - I had one of those also, but never tried to run it and later sold it.

Interesting that maybe some engines were specifically made to run on air?

On air at least, the square enclosed turbine (whatever # it is), has been the real performer for me. I never got around to really trying out the TF10 in the same way (TF10 came much later). I should plan on running them both full-bore on all the PSI I can muster, and make a video (maybe in the Spring).
