Great to see a Tarot at work!  That brass hammer mill was especially awesome.

Trevor really out did himself with the design and quality build.

I have another very special new build coming from him. The package is somewhere between Australia & Texas.

What a brilliant idea Nick.

The only problem is that I am usually asleep (in my recliner) before midnight on New Years Eve. 🤠

We celebrate at 11pm and watch the ball drop in NY on tv at their midnight because everyone is struggling to stay awake 😂

Walter had previously identified the Hour Ball:

Hour Balls were used in ports and dropped at specific times so that Mariners could set their chronographs.

There is a fantastic book that @parallelmotion recommended to me about the history of the chronograph.

“Longitude” by Dava Sobel.

Just in case you are unaware .... A&E made a four part movie for television called "Longitude" that was based on the book by Dava Sobel. I have never read the book, though I should like to, but I think the movie adaptation is most excellent, and I highly recommend it to anyone who might have the slightest interest!

Meanwhile, that Ball Drop is certainly a wonderful and uncommon accessory, and I do like the history behind it.

I will be steaming this one in the morning in memory of Scott.

I am embarrassed to say that I have never steamed it.

Should be interesting......
