Gray Model Hit And Miss Engine
« on: July 20, 2022, 07:38:39 pm »
I picked up this Gray model hit and miss engine at the Jacktown Hit and Miss Engine Show this past weekend.  It runs great, but I felt I needed to add a few things to dress it up a bit.  So, I made the 3 1/2" brass drive pulley and a brass fuel cap, removed the paint from the flywheel surfaces and polished the same, and then machined a muffler from videos of other model Gray engines found on YouTube.  I didn't have the specs, but I think I got it pretty close.  I also highlighted the embossed lettering on the side of the hopper.  It's now ready for the next engine show!

Wowee....Doug, you knocked it out of the park ! The improvements you made to it are top notch. Thanks for the video.

Bonjour Doug,

In France, we have no possibilities to find such engines except Chinese ones and their problems.

Do you know where I could get a twin of this one for example at reasonable price of course  ;)

Hi Dudley, that is one built by the Cooper Tool & Machine at their shop.
Had I known it was out there, I would have bid. I know it's new custodian in PA.

Harry Cooper passed away a few years ago and to my knowledge, no one has been able to acquire the patterns and any existing castings. I could be wrong about the patterns and castings.

Hi Gil. I did get to see it when I picked up an item I did win. It looked brand new hardly ran. My max bid was $900 but the winner place a bid for $211 more to knock me out.
