M 90 Hit and Miss need help or guidance
« on: September 14, 2019, 03:20:22 pm »
My hit and miss does not start anymore, just freewheels (spins around) and feels like no compression.

Checked for spark, have spark, installed new batteries, that part seems OK.

What I notice now if I put my finger over the carburetor instead of getting vacuum pull on my finger to touch,  it spits the fuel out on my finger and also out the vent on the fuel tank. Could this be bad rings? Or maybe intake valve stuck closed? Valves when pressing on them seem to open and close.

It did run before, went to start it about a month later and now it is no go.

Hope you can help me out.  :(

Thanks, Rich

Hi Rich,
If you are blowing fuel , I would suspect the intake valve is not properly seating. Short of disassembly , a squirt of oil  and opening and closing valve while gently spinning may clear debris preventing seal.

Bonjour Rich,
I have the same problem, Jin suggested me to remove one of the two O'rings and check if something interferes with the operation of the valve.
I wait for the start pulley I ordered to open my engine.

Rich, I had the exact same problems at first...zero compression and fuel spitting out the carb and tank.

Ended up pulling the engine apart and though piston had two grooves for rings, only one ring was present and was set in the upper groove.  I removed the silicone ring from the upper groove and placed it in the lower groove, oiled it well and reassembled.  Now engine performs perfectly and has run several hours with this minor change and has plenty of compression.

Thanks Roger for your help and others that replied. OK taking off head, looking at valve and o rings.  Time for jewelers magnifying glasses, damn eye sight .  ::)

Hello.
I also had the problem, the exhaust valve remained open.

I took off the spark plug, put a little Wd 40 on it, and blew it into the engine by activating the exhaust valve, and that’s okay.
