I have received no notification that mine is on its way, yet i see some M91s on ebay already. Did all of you who ppre-purchased a numbered M91 receive notification of it's being shipped, and if so, how were you notified?
I will contact Jin if I don't hear something soon. I checked my "spam" email as well, but nothing there.

With the radiator on the right side of the engine spin the flywheel facing you in a clockwise direction. I’m running mine on lighter fluid and a touch of castor oil.

Using a string pull starter, I’m able to get 6-8 rotations of the engine and nearly perfect starting.
Can you provide a clearer picture of the starter wheel? I want to add accessories for this part.

It’s nothing fancy Jin. I picked up a pulley wheel and cut a notch in the outside rim.  I use a string with a knot to fit the slot, wrap around the pulley and with slow pull it starts very easily.

Bonjour,
Please let me remind you how I started my #3 because I do not start on the "clockwise" side seen on Jins's video but Gil's one :

With the help of our Gil and a very useful Facetime phone call where we could see each other, see the problem and test fixes.

Problem seemed to be virtually NO compression.  We checked the exhaust and intake valves which seemed to be working fine having removed the head to observe.  Ended up taking head off, cylinder off and found the single green O ring in the groove closest to the top of the piston was barely making contact with the cylinder walls.  I will order some new O rings, but short term we switched the O ring to the other/lower groove...oiled it well and reassembled.   Using a bit of tape to protect the protruding crankshaft on the side without counterweights...a drill clamped on that side running in reverse got it started.  We were both elated after more than 90 minutes of messing with it.  We had even swapped the head from my M90 to see if it made any difference...answer NO.  Problem was definitely the M91's O ring.

After running it for maybe 15 minutes total with a couple of stops and restarts...it ran quite well AND compression seemed to have been restored...maybe that O ring did not have enough oil to make a proper seal???

My thanks to Gil for his time, patience and step by step problem resolution.  Funny, Gil and I have been online and phone friends for many years, but this was our first Facetime call where we got to see each other "in person" (sort of).

Thanks again Gil,

Rog

It is good that you both were able to converse & see each other some of the time, not so good that you had problems with a brand new engine though....but now you know the source of the problem (hopefully) & can get some high quality 0 rings to correct it. nice team work for both of you , and future forum members will at least have some answers should they come across this issue.
thanks to both of you.

Great story Rog!  :D  Could be the first ever "face-time model engine repair"  :D

I also knew Gil for 10+ years online and finally got to meet in person last year and again a few months ago  :)

Hi, I am sorry because the cylinders and pistons use a new processing technology, and we can upgrade and replace our metal piston rings in the future. (The metal piston rings are already in processing, and new accessories will be sold in the future!)
Now only need to remove one O-ring in the piston, the piston can solve the problem with only one O-ring.
Because we found that two O-ring engines are in operation. The middle of the two O-rings is a sealed environment, they will be caught by the thermal expansion and the piston will work. So it is normal to remove an O-ring.

My #18 arrived Monday, and last night i finally got to play with it. I had it running briefly, but it would not latch the exhaust valve open, so it did not hit/miss. Close inspection found that the piece that holds the roller bearing that operates the rod that opens the exhaust valve was bent in shipping, causing the roller to be at an angle to the cam and also the bearing pin to be loose and finally falling out of its bracket. The governor latching lever is also bent slightly. Once the roller worked loose and fell out, the engine quit running. I have contacted Jin for the replacement parts and am sure he will make it right.
All that said, I love the engine and can't wait to get it up and running again

Today I received Jin's package with a replacement crank shaft and pushrod assembly.

I have a little work to do this weekend!

I was thinking similar re the facetime call.
You are entirely welcome and I thoroughly enjoyed the call and the opportunity to help.

My pushrod assembly is on its way. This will give me time to make a rope start pulley.
Glad to see you now have something to do Gil!
