Well, after a few hours I finally got the little bastard running!
Mostly a comedy of errors on my part, but I did manage to achieve internal combustion after reassembly. Needs tweaking yet, but right now the biggest problem is that the flywheel with the governor bits is a bit loose and wants to slip on the shaft during the compression stroke. Makes it a bit hard to start from that side.
