Aquarium valve works for steam engine
« on: February 15, 2022, 01:38:27 pm »
I purchased an aquarium air valve on Ebay and hooked it
into my steam system.  It is made of stainless steel and
looks good.  I added a photo and link to a similar listing.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/403286654291

The seller also offers one with a threaded end.  I sent an
email asking what 'thread' it is and plan to make a better
looking and stronger setup using it.

I've also added a short video using it while running my
mill(?) engine off a Jensen 30.  The valve works perfectly but
it gets hot, so I will need to make a little wooden handle to
go over the valve handle.

I know the video is a bit choppy, but it does demonstrate
the Jensen 30 as a 'steam supplier', the mill engine as a
good runner (w/governor), and the valve as a new go-to that
works.

Nice hack to steam off another engine and be able to control the steam output.

You should carve a wooden handle for it to avoid burns when touching it.

I bet it would also look cool.

Wood would. ;D  Silicone tubing works also, cut a piece of that and slip it on.

Thanks for the comments.  Yes, a wood handle is on the agenda.
I also used a 'gang' valve setup to run three KJ Miller engines
at the same time from a compressor.  I added a you tube link.
This was taken by my wife on her cellphone and you can sort of
see the valves in the back when I adjust them.  This was my first
video, and it shows.

I will be buying another valve that has a threaded end to see if
I can use it to make a more secure setup.

And, Raphael, you make some nice videos with excellent engines.
I studied French for 3 1/2 years in high school and was pretty
good at translation, but that was 52 years ago.  Still, I pick
up enough here and there to understand what you are saying some
of the time.

Bonjour Wayne,
Your message makes me very happy on two counts, because you appreciate my videos and because you make the effort to try to understand my language with basics for the less old  ;)
