French steam engine
« on: November 18, 2024, 06:39:12 am »
Leboncoin is our version of Craigs List over here in France. I've decided to start looking there for steam engines and their related paraphernalia.
I've come across some interesting looking deals while looking for steam engines that were made in France. So far, the only company I have been able to find has been JC (Jean Comby) made in Paris under the UNIS FRANCE label of quality. UNIS is an acronymn for Union Nationale Inter-Syndicate, which was a consortium of independent manufacturers striving to establish standards of quality for French goods. I doubt it is still in effect today.
So, I've come across a couple of interesting steam engines on Leboncoin which you can see in the attached photos.
I find the art-deco one a bit bizarre.
I haven't decided if I will buy one or not. I like the non art-deco one the best of the two.
I'll post a video if I do acquire one.
Having fun in France.

I had an old college professor who used to say, "The cows may come and the cows may go, but the bull goes on forever."

They are a pretty common engine, especially in your “new” home. If you are looking to buy just one, I would hold off for a twin.

Fun engines not seen very often on EBAY USA.

Mine have all come from France EBAY.  I agree,
if you are to buy one J Comby engine try to get
the twin.  Its action is unusual.  Video below

Barring that, I suggest this power plant that I
think is the best J Comby produced.

Happy Steamer,

Both quite Fetching, even Elegant and Lovely, much as one might expect from their sophisticated French heritage!!!
"Information is not knowledge, Knowledge is not wisdom, Wisdom is not truth, Truth is not beauty, Beauty is not love, Love is not music: Music is THE BEST...
Wisdom is the domain of the Wis (which is extinct). Beauty is a French phonetic corruption of a short cloth neck ornament currently in resurgence..."
