Help ID This German Engine
« on: December 26, 2019, 04:49:54 pm »
A friend has this engine and is looking for info. I don’t know the German stuff too good, but I know some of you guys are pretty sharp with these. This is the only photo I have.

I'll throw my hat in the ring... Marklin 4149/9. Missing sight glass but otherwise looks unmolested.  Nice.

Very nice and well preserved Märklin, indeed, congratulations to the owner!
If this engine looks like a Bing to you, well, ...

Agree with Scott. To confirm provide a few measurement.

Size of base.

Diameter of Flywheel.

Diameter and length of boiler.

If he decides to sell it, ask him to offer it on the Forum! 🤠

Here is an example from WorthPoint, a subscription service to which I subscribe, of one that sold on eBay in 2010:

Here is a smaller version. This is a 4149/5.5. Resorted by David Hart.

I don’t actually know the owner, but I’ll try to find out if it will be available.

From it proportional size to the owner this is either a 4149/5.5 or /7 at max

I agree with this model number. It has a separate drain valve on the boiler which the larger boilers like a 9cm had. A 7cm didn't have a separate drain valve.

Cheers Bob, I collect mostly German steam stationary engines.
