Empires surely do seem to lose their whistle shells real regular. At a guess, only one in every three or four Empires that I have bought over the years has come with its whistle whole and intact.

Looks like they are substantially thicker walled then the originals, which seem almost paper thin, so your new ones ought to hold up as good as the rest of the solidly built Empire engines.

Nice work in making a bunch of replacements .... they sure look good from here!

Bonjour Empire,
I envy your skillness as I pay a fortune for all the whistles I install on my babies.
My current job consists exactly in adding one on an ilnlet pipe because there is no possibility to install it on the boiler :

Great job Stuart.

I could use a few of them.

Maybe we can arrange a trade when we get past this virus. 🤠

Still no reported cases within 50 miles of us.

Bonjour,

Really not obvious at all to make a whistle which operates correctly with steam. The last one I bought is KO :

To be sure of my mounting, I have tested my mounting in the boat with one wich I knew as correct :

The sound is directly linked to the size of the whistle, sorry, this one is quite small  ;)

Listen to this one:

What is the inside diameter, they are very similar to Weeden whistles that are 1/4" ID.

Bonjoru Frank,
I would say about 20 mm (+/- 0.65") and it is a home made whistle so no reference to any manufacturer.
