How Slow Can You Go? (on steam)
« on: August 28, 2019, 12:50:16 am »
Running with governor un-belted at around 50 volts

I counted 11 rotations in the last 25 seconds, so if I have done my math right, that would be 26.4 RPM's. I think a non-reversing 25 may be able to beat this one...

So cool Nick !!!

Love to play around with the engines like this myself, might have to pick up the challenge, and see if anything of mine will beat this impressive "slow motion" run.
Cheers

Please share the video when you do Jan, even if it doesn’t quite beat this  ;)

With it slow, one can see the in stroke being a little less power than the out stroke. Slightly less volume due to piston rod.
It's like that on full size engines too. A few weeks ago, I observed a 90hp Minneapolis TE doing that.

Love watching the action of the mechanism at that speed.  Beautiful engine Nick. Maybe some day I’ll get one.

That is way slow and going to be tough to beat! Likely it will take a big machine to be able to have the mass and inertia to manage it!

I clocked the last ten revolutions at ~ 26.08 RPMs.

Nicely done Nick!!!

I should have filmed it for at least a minute, but I know it did go for 2 or 3 minutes before the condensate in the exhaust stalled it. After clearing that out it ran about the same speed for another couple of minutes.

I will disqualify my above run as it's an old video, so let's see some new slow runs  ;)  I'll try to get one in tonight...

Not my slowest run, but probably one of the slowest 85's out there  ;)

73 RPM's

Impressive to see one of these going that slow, thanks for sharing.

...but, it really needs oil Nick, my 85´s is much faster at 15 psi  ;)
Cheers

HAHA  ;D  yes, I had it pegged. I tried running on low flame with throttle wide open as that's how I do my low speed runs with electric Jensens, but I was stuck around 100 rpm's. I'm thinking it needs a run with a heavy cast 35 flywheel...
