I got hosed today, no money but no item.
« on: January 21, 2024, 11:24:21 am »
There was a Wilesco D430 on German eBay that I had been watching for five days and won the auction
this morning. I always try to pay right away and when I did it wouldn't go through. No fault on my
part, the seller canceled the order. He offers worldwide shipping but then sends me a message about
how hard it would be to send it to me.
The thing that p---es me off is it was new and included the team of brown draft horses which isn't
made anymore, just the black ones. See item below and pictures from his site.

One thing I did get to do is leave him the worst Feedback I could think of, nothing nasty, just the
facts and images.

Yeah Bruce I'm bummed. That sold price of 294 euros is mine, actually I bid 400.
The seller probably pulled it when he didn't get what he thought he would. Not
my fault nobody else went higher. He doesn't 100% seller score anymore.

Sorry that happened to you, Tommy. That would have been a nice item to get a hold of!

Lots of shady dealers on eBay. I've only run across a couple, both were in USA. If a seller decides last-minute not to complete the sale, there are a number of lame reasons that eBay accepts, including "the item is no longer available."

I read the feedback you left, I don't think I could have been that civil... [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Sorry to hear this Tommy, that sure is a bummer.

I think you might be right, and he was disappointed by the price it brought...because his reasons are way off.
As far as Customs Duties goes, it is hardly his problem.
(I don´t even know, whether or not you guys have to pay import duties for items like this?)
As far as shipping goes, i think it would be a hard task finding someone in the US, who would provide trans-atlantic cheaper than DHL does out of Germany.

Seems to be some of this sort of thing going around lately. I had a somewhat similar experience a few months ago.

Looks like it would have been a great display piece, and hopefully a good runner to boot. Sorry for your missing out on this one for what appears to be no good reason.

Hi Tommy, Sorry to see this happened to you. I have had the same happen to me.
I wish I still had my D430 because if I did I would be happy to pass it on to you.

For what it's worth, I wrote the seller through German ebay.

This:

You are a genuine dooooschebaggg.
You sell a D430 on ebay to one of our forum members and then cancel the sale claiming you did not want to ship to the USA.
What is wrong with you??? You should have listed it as shipping to Germany or Europe only.
Rest assured the entire worldwide community of model engine collectors will be told the truth and this is already happening.

Thanks Paula, at first I wasn't very civil. Before I sent it, I cleaned it up because if
the Seller complained to the eBay monitors, then I'm the bad guy.
Boy oh boy I wanted that SOB face to face, and the horses too.

Thanks Jan, he should have put a reserve on it. I have purchased 17 steam engines and 12 accessories from
Germany, the UK, and Australia and have never been hit with duties or import fees. Oh well, he's on my list.

Arnold and Gil, thanks for the offer guys. I have an unfired D430, but I don't have the team of draft horses.
They were the brown ones with the yokes and the base. That would have looked good on the coffee table.
WOW, Gil did you really do that? Cool!
