J C Unis
« on: May 12, 2024, 08:44:33 pm »
This J C Unis should arrive in a few days. I don’t think the smokestack is original, but everything else appears to be ok. I haven’t found much info on these engines except for the following link.

I would love to learn more about it.

Impressive paint job on the base and a nice big burner.

Yes, the paint scheme on the base is very interesting and unique. It looks like the manufacturer used same pattern on their smokestacks based on pictures of other engines. I hope I can find an original smokestack, as there is no way I could ever hope to reproduce that look on another stack.

I don't know much about these engines.  However, I don't believe that all of the stacks were painted to match the base.

This one has the matching stack.  It's a fancier slide-valve mode with the firebox door:

This oscillating cylinder model doesn't have a fancy stack and it's a very complete engine with box, instructions, etc, so I think the odds are quite good that the stack is original.

This YouTube video seems to be the same engine, but with a painted stack.

Here's the first run on steam - kinda nice. It runs much faster on 10 pis air, so the alcohol burner it came with may need a little tweaking. I shut things down after 6-7 minutes because the boiler is small and there is no sight glass.

Happy steaming!
