I don't have many toy steam engines, some Mamods, a Jensen and these 2. I got them from a friend when I was about 14. My searching show they were probably made in the late 40's early 50's. As seen from the pictures I have all the parts to make them into each of the 3 configurations, beam, horizontal and vertical.
I steamed them many years ago but the cords got dried out and frayed so I cut them off.

These are very easy to rewire and I think this was a real kit for kids “back in the day”.
I have been looking for a nice one for over a year. Hard to find one with all the parts for the three configurations.
My friend, Alan Palmer has a nice video on his YouTube Channel of these running in all three configurations.

Love them, very nice educational toys these.
I'm suitably impressed ...... it has never occurred to me to try running three at once, each in a different configuration ... but now that I've seen it, I may just have to try it !?!?
How wrong they were when they introduced those engines for kids.
I have one of these as well.
it would have been a great toy for a young boy- back before there were video games and internet!

Interesting engines .
I have 1 base with good working boiler .
1 base no boiler and enough parts to make all 3 configuration and two at once .
A compete set of parts and base minus boiler are currently holidaying in the UK
Soon to come home
I am sure we will see the reason why eventually .
Cheers
Dennis
Lots of fun! I've attached a good photo. Can't find the video now
but it is on youtube. Turns over so easily that you can run all
three at the same time on lung power...killer keeper.

Great picture.
Thanks for posting.
One sold on eBay US for $160.50 plus shipping. Complete and with the parts for all 3 configurations. These have definitely gotten more popular. A couple years ago you could buy a good example for under $100. Lots of bad ones out there. But, these have definitely gotten more popular.
I've tried to get one on Ebay but seems like there's always someone with deeper pockets that wants it worse - looks like I'm just going to have to throw a bucketful of money at one before the supply runs out!
