I recently engaged in a discussion regarding replacement heaters
for Elektro (or Empire) upright boiler engines. I recommended
a 380 watt tube heater as a replacement. Now, I have my doubts
about that 380 watts.
I'm reasonably sure at least one other steamer tried my solution,
but I do not recall who.
If this person has an ohm meter I'd appreciate a check on the
resistance. I checked my '380 watters' at 100 ohms. Now I know
why they leave me wanting more. My original Elektro heater runs
about 25 ohms and steams in a jiffy.
I checked all my electrically heated engines and it seems that
400 watt heaters measure about 30 ohms, 250 watt 60 ohms, 200 watts
75 ohms, 125 watts 120 ohms. All the ohm readings are a bit approximate
as it is an inexpensive multimeter and my eyes are a bit tired.
I have questions,
