Little Red Injun Steam Engine
« on: August 05, 2020, 01:06:59 am »
I just bought thie Little Red Injun Steam Engine that was made by the Major Toy Company. They
were located in Detroit, Michigan in 1940 thru the 1950s. I made a new chimmey for it and
in the photos on the internet they show as being a green color. The John Deere I had looked
like a good match. Living in Detroit at the time the engine was made a good reason to buy
this engine. It is made of steel which could be bad but this must be made of heavy steel.
In the photo below is a J. Falk weighting 4.2 ounces and the Little Red Injun weighted in
at 25.2 ounces a big difference in weight.

Here is a video of it running.

Very nice. I am intrigued that the steam pipe comes out near the bottom of the boiler, wonder if it is routed from the top before exiting.

Looks real odd with that faux spoked flywheel and the bulbous firebox.
If I had the storage space... And the money... I'd have a few more engines.

When I cleaned the boiler I put a wire in the steam line to make sure it was
not plugged. The wire went in a long ways so I think you are right it must go
to the top of the boiler.

Nice find, Carl..!!!  Thanks for sharing it here.
It certainly is in great shape and runs great, too!

I imagine today, with the politically correct cancel culture we would not be allowed to sell something called the "Little Red Injun".
This makes the name near as collectible as the engine itself.
