My new Maerklin 4161 Steam engine - two cylinder full steam
almost original status with Maerklin Generator. Boiler Size
is 9 cm dia. Burner with 2 Heads works very well and efficient.
It runs well under steam - now I have to make a good cleaning
without removing the nice patina. Enjoy

Nice find and a very good runner. I have a 4150 of this vintage and the base has a shine to it like your engine. They must have changed the painting process a little adding a clear coat ? My earlier engines with black bases are not as shiny. I like this era of Marklin with the gold pin striping and cast covers.
I'm guessing these were made in the 1920's to 30's if anybody can confirm ?

Love steam engines, especially older German made. Love the more clockwork style. Addicted to this stuff!

Well, Arnold, I, err, mmphh, err, gasp, gulp.
Breathe, Thomas, breathe. IN and OUT, slowly...
Oh, yes, nice, quite nice, yep, well done. A steam-engine, I presume?
(Hard to keep a stiff upper lip, I dare say!)
Congratulations!

Fantastic engine.
I recommend trying to pin point the knock.
Thicker oil on that joint may be the fix or even grease. I have synthetic crystal clear grease for this purpose.
A noninvasive trick to handle it is to use the flat tape style plastic floss for teeth.
With that you can wrap the pin to make up slack or slop. It's soft and gentle and makes the engine purr.

Wow Arnold!
Another great addition to your collection.
And one heckuva runner right from the start.
I love these big Marklin engines and I am hoping to add another similar one to my collection soon. 🤠
I hope you will share a before and after picture once you are done shining it up.
