India stationary steam engine plus Electronic question?
« on: June 05, 2021, 03:56:27 pm »
I stumbled on this India made steam engine, I am not real interested in it but Am interested in learning about Electric heated units.
It is wired for 220v and 50Hz, in addition to change out the plug, what would be needed to run this on 120v and 60Hz usa power?

Doesn’t answer your question, but will probably keep you from buying this engine...

Hi,

You would need a two phase 120V power supply or a big step-up transformer which is not really feasible unless you have one laying around.
I dont think that the replacement of the heating coil is an option, better stay away from this if you plan to run it, there are much better machines out there.

Regards,

Maurice.

I think from memory the heater is a  Screw in immersion heater .
A U shaped element like old electric jugs
Easiest thing to do would be unscrew and replace .

Many thanks to All who posted, with the possibility of a boiler that could rust,  the low performance of generator and the need to spend $ to get the heater working in my country all ad up to me avoiding this unit. Appreciate the input!-Ben
