New "Droolbucket"
« on: April 15, 2021, 04:26:08 pm »
Been using an old tobacco tin, and a relatively large 40mm ordnance shell to collect the waste steam condensate for many years here.
Both of which has their flaws, the former mainly its dull appearance, and the later it´s tall stature, which makes me tilt it over ever so often by accident.

Yesterday a friend living close by called on me (again), to collect a batch of "old stuff" which he thought i might find useful.
Amongst the "treasures" mainly consisting of rusty old tools, coalshovels and a couple of veteran tractor rims, i found an old British WWII 2 pounder shell casing.

This afternoon i decided to give it a cleaning, a buffing, and a couple of connecting tubes (yes two of them, just because Daniel "55FREAK" Stoker likes them that way ;) ).
...and within the hour, a condensate collector of much more fitting size, was in stock here as well.

For size comparison, here´s the old "Tiltmeister":

Am considering to shorten it by a couple of inches, and make a "hat" for it, but have to find my design mojo before that happens 8)

Oh fine ..... blame it all on me!

And just BTW ..... I'm not a "55FREAK", but rather simply a Jensen #55 Aficionado!!!  ;c)

But all kidding aside, I do believe you will find that extra barb to be of advantage from time to time.

Jan, that is a great use for some serious brass you have there!

Is the taller one an Anti-Aircraft Artillery shell?

Thanks Daniel!

I did "see the light", inspired by your past remarks.
Am certain they´ll come in handy, not just for twins, but also when running two engines side by side.

DANG! What if those two are 55s...need to make one with 4 barbs now ::)

Could easily have been Gil, as this shell is used for just that.

Unfortunately mine has a less intriguing history, as it lived its life as a blank "salute shell".

Thanks Ted, very flattering, but i won´t.

Anyway, if something similar is desired, it is much more fun and very easy to make it yourself :)

Nice Jan :)

Nice work Jan , does the job nicely.
Thanks guys  :)

...and Bruce, it actually does.
Goes without saying that any can could collect the condensate, but the heavy base on these casings makes them sit very stable, having to be tilted more than 30 degrees off vertical to tip over.

Naw ... if you get that far into it, then either make another two holer, or use a couple of "Y" fittings .... but certainly glad you have finally "seen the light"!   ;c)

Beautiful job soldering and cleaning them both. 8)  Job well done Jan. Anybody can buy stuff, but when you can make it
yourself, it's a little sweater.
