Wilhelm Krauss Flying Carousel
« on: November 01, 2024, 07:42:18 pm »
Hello

I just got this off eBay.  At first I did not think it was all original, but as I blew up the pictures it looked legit.  It seemed to match the book on accessories I have.  When I got it the trademark was on all the plane's.  I was wondering if anyone had one and could check theirs to see if it had the wooden bottom.  On mine it looks very crude, not even a circle.  Almost looks like it was added to keep it down on a board.

Mine does not have wood, and I have never seen wood on one. They are pretty flimsy so I’m sure it was added for strength. Well done! It’s a nice piece and one I hadn’t spotted ;)

I have an older similar model and it also does not have the wooden insert.

Thank you for the responses.  I guessed it was an add on.  I am not sure about removing it.  The board is attached with Escutcheon Pins neatly done.  I think taking them out will mess up the base, so for now it may just stay as it is.

I would leave it in, quite flimsy without it and it was neatly done long ago

I'd leave it in as well, as it seems a good reinforcing and stabilizing addition!
