Seeking Info on Very Small Boiler....?
« on: June 15, 2022, 09:31:49 pm »
Here posting some photos of a very small boiler I have had for a long time, it is made to a high standard and I believe that it may be either a manufactured boiler, or made from a kit. Just wondering if anyone might be familiar with this and might have seen another?

Despite its small size, it has three water tubes on the bottom, and I have had it up to about 25 PSI, I rigged up a crude steam pipe tube to play around with it at one point. The boiler is 1/16 inch thick brass, the firebox is 1/8 steel. Weighs 2.63 pounds! I am guessing that it might date from the 1940s-60s. The ports are the same as Jensen, so I was able to use a standard pressure gauge that fits Jensens. Also included is a photo for reference next to a Mamod Minor 2 - this boiler is almost identical in size at about 1 3/4 by 4 5/8 inches.   Any comments appreciated - Thanks!

Holly Cow, is that over built. That material seams thicker than what is used in a
Stuart Boiler. Looks like who ever made it was trying to make a miniature Stuart.

Yes I think "overbuilt" is a very good description for it! And the fat safety valve has a spring in it that must be set to at least 80 if not 100 PSI. I know what the resistance of a more standard 60 PSI spring feels like, and this one is far stronger.

I have posted the photos to see if anyone might recognize it as a known quantity, just in case it might be something special. Otherwise, I will be listing it for sale on the classifieds here, and I will give it until Sunday to see if someone might offer an ID. I did not pay a lot for it, and I have three other boilers already (all much more typical in size).

Thanks for the suggestion, I checked as far as I could to see if it might be a BL, could not find any match but of course it is always hard to find much information on most old steam boilers, especially if they might be scarce ones. Since it is unmarked, any sure ID may remain elusive, but it remains one remarkable little brick of a boiler, regardless of its origins!
