Solar engine No 5

Here is my Solar engine #5
It has no pulley for power take off so it doesn't do much, still a neat engine and fun to watch.

Always wanted one of those myself ... as I think it's about the only Ed Morgan engine that I don't have.

That is a particularly nice example as it looks about brand new in the video!

That is nice looking and a nice runner!


I think you could cut a small pulley groove in one of the flywheel hubs and I believe it would be powerful enough to run one of your high quality accessories like the band saw I just received. Thank you!

Yes a very good runner, The price I paid was not too far off of the price on the ad in the picture.
Once in a while you stumble on an exceptional deal, the engine was like new with all of the paperwork, some ads, and the wick in the burner hadn't been lit.
I've thought about cutting a groove in one of the flywheels but decided to leave it original.

When did PM Research sell these? Who is the designer you mention?

I am impressed with their #6 Koko like fan. I've driven accessories from the fan with a rubber band on the fan starting knob. The fan blade itself acts as a flywheel.
Looks to be the nearly same beta Stirling used... the #5 base for the 6?

Chris, your fan makes a real good motive power supply.
The music box makes a great accessory.

I have a couple of those music boxes purchased a few years back intending to to similar and have not yet gotten to it.

Fantastic looking engine Bill, thanks for sharing !

Good to see one run, i haven´t been able to convince myself to fire mine yet.
It also arrived with quite a bit of ephemera and extras, but unfortunately not quite as cheap as yours.

PMR never sold these  :)
They´re one of several original Solar products, that PMR didn´t put into production (yet), after they purchased Solar Engines Mfg., Phoenix, AZ from Ed and Jeannette Morgan back in 1995.
