Interesting indeed Jim, thank you, never seen a steam model plane before but it was done on a larger scale many years ago:

That is SO cool, thanks for sharing Jim !!!

Impressive that this (and the Model Engineer article from 1989) has been able to exist without more attention.
Cheers

I agree with Jan, very interesting how he overcame the obvious hindrances of the propeller wash & flight in motion wind problems  that would cool a boiler down, nice work ! (he's a good pilot as well)

Very impressive, both of them. I wonder where the Besler aircraft is today.

Cool. Thanks for posting. Do M.E. build articles document tested designs? I wonder if the authors built one.

Hi Frazer, There is plenty of interest in something like this and it is great content. We are starting out here and just not always busy. For example right now it looks like just 2 or 3 of us are online.

Actually, it looks like this posting got a pretty fair response, and there is quite a bit of interest in it.

I can add that the Besler plane flew only a few miles from where I grew up, and only a decade or so earlier, so I do feel a historical connection.

I'd also point out that there is another thread currently extant that references steam powered flight as well, in connection with Anton Bohaboy and his model engineering wizardry, so while obviously not everybody is always interested in all the same things, this particular topic has sparked a significant amount of interest within this rather limited population community.

The auction ended and I believe it sold for 67 pounds.

I believe the Comet is mentioned in the article.

Very interesting story.
