I just took delivery of a make of steam engine that I have not bought in a very long time.
A Mamod in fact, and somewhat rare, as it is surprisingly an unfired ME 2, the least produced of the Marine Engine line with only about 1,500 being made, circa 1958 to 1965, before being superseded by the SEL powered ME 3. Paid just a nudge over $100 for it, so something of a bargain as well in my estimation!
It even came with the original instructions, product flier and collapsed carton with label that are in fair shape as well, though it is missing the original burner. I could not tell that it was unfired from the listing nor photos, but upon arrival it is clear that it has never had a flame under it, even though it is a bit "dirty/oily" looking, and was just so in the listing photos. Should clean up a treat however, and I can always borrow a burner for it if the need to fire it ever overcomes me. I do have a couple of others, so that need can be satisfied without devirginizing this one!

A nice ad to the collection!
Looks good & the price was even better. Let us know how you like it after running.
Were these ever put into model boats?
Were these ever put into model boats?
On occasion, but it seems rather rare. In the earlier years of ME 1 production Mamod (or maybe Hobbies) had the Conqueror and the Meteor boats, but apparently, they were commercial flops so were discontinued. Of course, those boats are sought after collector's items now!!!
I remember bidding on a Wilesco marine engine on eBay (didn't win it) with intentions of putting it into a boat.
Another excellent purchase!
I almost had one of these, but waited too long to make an offer.
