I think it was just a seasonal cover for the magazine without an article associated with steam engines. The artist was definitely looking at a Marklin.

Its a terrific image, I wish I had enough wall real estate left in my steam room to frame and hang it.

It looks to me like Grandad is trying to keep the boy back  , so he can play with it himself , and the boy doesn't appreciate it . LOL

Perhaps a somewhat different technique may be applicable here. I have far more train pictures, mostly artwork with a few photos, than I have wall space. My solution for that is that some of my picture frames have multiple images in them, stacked one behind another. When the mood strikes, I will occasionally change a few of those pictures being shown, and in so doing, change the ambiance of my surroundings a bit!
