tiny EP engine with vertical saw
« on: September 17, 2025, 04:24:20 pm »
Plank made a series of these little engines on a common base with one of their toy machine tools. This one is from around 1900 and has a scotch yoke-driven vertical saw. Amazing how well they run after all these years.

Certainly, very high levels of quality and ingenuity were established back in that time and place!

Thanks for you comments. Most of the cast parts on the smaller Plank engines and accessories are cast in a lead alloy, so have to be very careful--I've seen a few half melted flywheels.

I've seen some Weedens with melted flywheels too!

I guess lead was easier to work with back in the day!?!?
