well this arrived today
A New Zealand made Topliss steam engine .
Twin cylinder and reversing with speed control.
Topliss are a New Zealand Tapware company and these were made a long time ago.
I only know of 1 other and it was not complete .
I am very lucky to have purchased one via a TM auction.
A bonus is the box and instructions.

Nice engine you can tell it was made a long time ago because the phone
number has only 4 numbers.
Wow Dennis .... what a unique engine, and with a name like that it sure does get your attention. I like everything about that one, the long burner, the reversing twin cylinders, and did I mention the name?!?! ;c)
I actually have never heard of these before now, but I'd definitely glad to find out about them. Any chance of a video with it running?
video now up
crappy internet here in NZ it took over an hour to upload .
video taken by the usual half blind idiot who can not focus .

Dennis
there is a bit of one on the Mamod forum that was resurrected
he reckons around 1965 and between 100 - 150 made
i would think probally not many boxes left floating around .
cheers
Dennis
Nice video!
That reversing valve certainly does a good job of controlling the steam flow, but Oh MY is that a whole lot of flame under that not very large boiler!!!
I like this engine .... thanks for introducing us to a very rare "bird" from New Zealand.
Topliss indeed !?!? ;c)
Nice runner...and Cute. Interesting reverser
that also acts a bit as a throttle. Nice slow speed.
You might resto it but I'd give it an appropriate
wipe-down, mild cleaning and leave it as it is.
So, where can I order one? Yeah, surrrrre, ha, ha.
Maybe there are also singles and
you could put them together on a
blind date. Can't imagine there are
Topliss Twins w/o Topliss Singles.
Something to hunt for?
Good, Left-field Get,
Wayne
Nice one Dennis.
I have never seen one before.
It runs great.
Thanks for the video! 🤠
Great Steam Plant - did't know that they produced steam engines Down Under.
I like the simple design of a 2-cylinder oscillating engine - very few mechanically
parts. I think the instruction sheet and box is very rare too!
I made one myself using scrap metal. Have a small video. Happy steaming!
Merry go around

Awesome find, Dennis..!!!
It still amazes me how much I need to learn about steam engines. Thanks for the contribution.
This is a great addition to your collection.
