Upgrade to my Steam Cave & Stuart Family Portrait

The particle board tops that came with my 72” high x 48” wide x 24” deep shelving units were warping under the weight of my collection.

I replaced five of the shelves (the ones holding the heaviest load) with 1/2” plywood from Home Depot (which are precut to the exact dimensions that I needed),

This job meant moving around many engines and accessories and that led me to dusting them.

It also gave me an excuse to do a family portrait of my Stuart Engines.  I do have two Stuart Boilers on a high shelf and I didn’t get them down.

Nice Charlie .... I can certainly see why your shelves may have been sagging a little!

Some serious cast iron on display there!!!

   Great collection, over the years I have had the 10H, 10V, D10, Twin Launch, the little ST, an incomplete #9, and four S50s. Have always wanted a beam engine and a 504 boiler, maybe someday!

A very nice collection Charlie - Stuarts are still some of the nicest steam engines in my book.

What a great Stuart family photo...!!!

I also saw Mr. Carette finding his way into the picture.

Easy to see why you needed a display platform strength upgrade.

Yes there are Arnold! :)

I have a Score somewhere.  Don’t remember what I did with it.  Here is a video of it running with my DaVinci Drum Model and Water Pump.



A Stuart Victoria is definitely on the list; as is the Stuart Pump Jack; and the Stuart Air Hammer.

I also had a very small Stuart one-one or No. 11 which went to Gil as a gift and I never was able to get it working. I don’t believe he has ever gotten it to run either.  It was a very early version and had a tag that said:

Stuart Turner Ltd.
Makers
Henley on Thames

I had a Stuart No.1 which I sold to Saint Paul Steam.  The No. 1 came from Italy and was purchased in the 1980s from the Steam Age Shop in London.  Bruce is now the third owner.

Hello Charlie - the Nr. 1 is in my opinion very beautiful and strong but best looking and working
is the Twin Victoria. My Favorit was always the Major Beam - fabulous engine. There are so many
nice ones - haha
The steam hammer also is a great one and fun to run.
