Sorry for digging up a old post but thank you for this post, I just got a #17 and there is hardly any crank left, luckily I found a source at
Classic Tin Toy Co. Inc.But the main reason why I was searching for a photo of a #17 was the whistle. My whistle won't screw into the tank anymore and I was beginning to think the engine didn't come with a whistle.
- The whistle doesn't really look at any other Weeden I have seen.
- With the whistle installed, there isn't a pressure valve.
- I took a pressure valve from my #14 and it screwed in perfectly fine.
So, I began to think someone decided to put some random whistle on the tank, that is until I found the photo on this post! Its a small miracle the whistle hasn't been lost. I think this is a earlier #17, mainly by the design of the governor topper - its the "slimmer" design (that I personally like more).
