That's a nice one Nick!  I don't recall seeing any etchings that look like yours, I suspect it was made by Union Toy Mfg in the late 1870's but I'm not sure.

Here's an ad from 1873 showing the cylinder mounted on top of the boiler.  Note that it came in two different sizes and two different configurations, plain and ornamented. 

I find it interesting that it's supposed to shoot water 20 feet.

Perhaps that was actually meant as 20 "scale" feet?!?!

I don't think so, later ads (1878) claim "Here we have a perfect little Steam Fire Engine that will throw a stream of water fifteen or twenty feet"

Amazing!  But what's really caught my eye is the sleeve whistle,This style of whistle was used by both Ryder and Buckman and both offered it as an accessory for 15 cents.  @Nick, does it still turn?

Haha, yes that was a last minute decision to try the pump and the only hose I had handy
