Bing 130/531
« on: July 16, 2019, 11:20:46 pm »
Came across these pictures of one of my favorite little Bings out of Robin Corsiglia's collection 10 years ago. The boiler band is not original, but doesn't look bad on there and the engine has been found in the 1912-1915 catalog, maybe earlier...

Nick, I have one of those as well but sadly I believe the magnets have given up the ghost... does yours make any watts/volts?

Never measured what it puts out, but it lit the bulb ten years ago when I ran it 2 or 3 times. I’ve got an old low quality video somewhere out there on YouTube...

I have another Bing with vertical boiler and long wood/lithograph base, also from Robin’s collection, that has the same dynamo.

I have one of those generators and they do light a bulb nicely. If I remember right, around 2 volts at 4000 RPM

Gorgeous engine, just imagine being a kid (young or old) and receiving that as a gift in 1912.

I think it is time for another run after 10 years Nick. 🤠

Amazing what a load that little bulb puts on the engine.

And how far video recording quality has come in 10 years!

I had to move this engine on the shelf yesterday to get to one behind it, and instead of putting it back, I took it down to the photo bench, video soon...  ;)

And yes, I'll be using a better camera this time around  :D
