Chiltern Steam Plant

This is my Chiltern Duplex Mill Twin Cylinder Engine steam plant that has been sitting around for over six years. Finally got it together and mounted but it is still a non-runner probably due to timing issues or the trick reversing throttle valve.  At any rate it's together and I can give this a rest for a while 'cause I've still got more to catch up on ond I seem to have a problem concentrating on a single project too long anymore.

Whatever issues it may have, I've no doubt you'll well sort them in time.

Meanwhile, it is nothing short of LOVELY, and decidedly quite Unique!

I like that a whole lot!!!

I really like how this turned out!!! Gives you more shelf space for smaller pieces to sit in the openings 😃

This is a work of art!  Beautiful!


But to help a newbie to understand what I am seeing...

What is the dark metallic cylinder the brass throttle is setting on?

What is the large brass cylinder at the lower right of the photo?  What are the two "posts" on the top for?

How is the gas fed to the burner?  Is that related to the woven metal tube and the coin-shaped thing to the left of the baseboard?

The large dark cylinder is a walnut support column for the reversing/throttle valve which isn't entirely necessary as the piping should support it but I thought it best to include as I have always tended to over engineer things (ask the designers that worked with me). The large brass cylinder is the exhaust condensing oil/water separator tank.  The posts are the normal steam (water) exhaust after it has been separated from the oil and the one with the valve is to empty the tank when open and the normal exhaust closed off. The braided one is the connector hose to connect to the gas supply. One last thing is to always pay attention when hooking up piping. I didn't and one pipe to the engine had a nut seize up and twist the pipe severely as I just kept going and didn't see what was happening. Something to fix later.....maybe. Hope my crude original layout helps a little.
