DC steam engine?
« on: April 22, 2021, 07:08:08 pm »
Hi
Hoping the experts on this site can help me. I’m looking at buying a vintage steam engine, and need some information on it. It’s old, and has a logo on it with a capital letter D intertwined with a capital letter C and it says “made in Germany”.
Any ideas, folks?

The make is Doll & Co. They made hundreds of models over a long period of time so it's impossible to tell you more without photos, etc.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Looks like it’s a DC 343. Are they worth much?

Your Doll steam engine is not a 343/1 with an oscillating cylinder, but probably a 348/2 with a fixed cylinder. In any case, it is a machine from the 348 series. You can find out the exact model by comparing the dimensions of the base plate, the boiler length and diameter, the flywheel diameter and the cylinder shell diameter with the information on Ventix Pages. The existing fittings also help with identification. I am very sure that your machine is a 348/2, but I do not know the exact dimensions.
Cheers
Jürgen

Thanks for this! I will have to measure it when I get it.
