Hello all
Just discovered this site. For those who have seen my questions regarding the Marklin 4147/9 on a different forum you can ignore this post. I have had Wilesco and Jensen engines for years. I saw a large Marklin 4159 from a distance 27 years ago at a car show in Hershey PA. I remember the vendor who had it had a handle bar mustache. I have not seen one in person since that glance but have looked them up and longed for one since that time. I just purchased a 4147/9 with crate from eBay.de. It arrived yesterday but I will not open until Christmas.
Here is my question(s): I have verified that the larger 4147/11 first showed in the Marklin catalog 1921 and ran through 1930. Of all the Marklin engines in catalogs which give the optional smaller sizes down below, the 4147 is VOID of this. There are many examples of the smaller 4147/7 and the midsize 4147/9 on the internet so we know that they were legitimate offerings. I noted the the drawing of the larger 4147/11 stays the same in the catalogs but the engine changed some through the years. Water pump change,Stamped ABC on boiler added, smaller fire door added, etc. my engine has the older pump, no small fire door, smaller governor-there were 2 sizes for the 9cm. At this point I can only guess it is 1921-1922.
Does anyone know why the smaller sizes were not in the catalogs? If they were not in the catalogs how on Earth were they sold/ offered back then?
I even emailed back and for some with Reinhard Schiffmann trying to get answers but he basically said he would need to see my engine in person.
Thank you for any help
Russell
