WGL/HGL

These machines crop up on German ebay once in a while.
I have lost track whether this forerunner of WILSCO (Also based in Lüdenscheid) is HGL (Henrich Gröning, Lüdenscheid, or Henrich und Gröning) or WGL (Wilhelm Gröning, Lüdenscheid).
The engine offered here is in a sorry state, but it may help you in identifying these engines, which are often offered as WILESCO. This is why I post it here and not in the ebay section:

The round water gauge is virtually the same as for WILESCO items, so is the general layout, but the characteristic identification marks are:
- the corrugated aluminum "gangway" with railings
- shape of wooden handles and knurled nuts
- peculiar form and position of the bases for whistle and steam valve
- tapered shape of connecting rod
- style of cylinder cover and end-cap
- black pressure gauge

Colour scheme looks original.

I have to admit that the basic layout and finish of these engines bears a certain similarity to some GDR/DDR engines, and they are often seen as East-German toys, but they are definitely not!
There is a nice overtype engine, btw, also electrically heated...
