Oooh, nice box! ;D

It has a good color scheme and nice lay out. I'd like to see it with speed valve and yes Bruce,
down around 120-130 Euros. Not the 199.00 Euros plus shipping.

The differences I can spot are:

Nice wood box
Etching on boiler
Different paint color on base
Retro color heat shield on cyl

Some more subtle difference that may be camera lighting or hand picked model for photo display:
The bricks on fire box seem a little darker or red tone...may just be batch difference when plating?
The boiler looks slightly better polished to showcase etching?
Might be my imagination or photo lighting....lol

As far as engraving/etch , one in sales photo looks to be etched and darkened.
Note this one out in the wild, even a different inscription.

So, are some of these faux editions now selling?

I don't have insider info...but I have some thoughts on the etching.
I believe the last photo where the etching is silver color and harder to see IS what Wilesco builds, they likely had it professional photographed for sales brochure... The "etching" did not show well in photo so they filled in black with paint or other product as the etching is really the main feature...it is false advertising to be sure.
I believe you could replicate by painting the etch yourself, try not to go outside the lines to much, but after paint is dry clean up with paint thinner...if you wash to much away you can totally clean and keep experiment till you get a nice effect.
The paint will not likely hold up to steam temps long term...there may be products that would..these are my best guess..but only speculation!

You know...I have never really looked at just What the engraving said..only that it was engraved lol!
I Have found at least 2 variants, one the model is called D10/100 the other is D1O/60
I don't know if these Honor 2 different milestones or what?
It could also be some Wilesco management wanted to change mid stream.
I suppose someone with an engraver is making knock-offs....by the time they respray the base and engrave the boiler it would be a hard way to make a buck!
It would not surprise me if a smallish German company changed the engravings mid production.
Also I just noticed the silver etch model has words in German so this may have been ment for local German sales....the Wilesco script may have been intended for USA market?
Shooting from the hip I would say if the seller has the wooden box it may be legit? If no box than more likely a knock off.

Did they do a special for the 70th?

Wonder what they have planned for 75...

Well you missed the 70th, that was a big box with two D32s and a couple of D3s. I think it went for $11,000.00.
For the 75th, rumor has it you get box of 25 D3s. Price is yet to be determined.

Yes, they made a batch of 70 Special Edition Wilesco D24, commemorating the original from 1950.

Yes, just like the very first D24 back in 1950.

Why they then decided to just grab some standard D20/D24 nickleplated parts from stock, instead of going all in and make a copy as close a possible (within the current safety demands), is beyond my grasp.
Cheers
