Jensen Banjo bolt gauge
« on: February 13, 2023, 01:02:49 pm »
Looking to add a pressure gauge to my Jensen engine.  I ran across some photos of an engine that had a pressure gauge installed in the banjo bolt location.  Where can I find one of those?  I use the engine for educational purposes for elementary schools as I work for a local utility and have steam in my blood.  Thanks in advance for any info. on finding one of these.

What you saw was most likely a homemade adaptor, probably by one of our members, done for himself. Most any home machinist should be able to make one for you, but I'm unaware of any commercially available adaptors being produced.

Perhaps that member will see this thread and comment.

Oh Yes ... and a Big WELCOME to the Forum, if you truly have steam in your blood, you may well want to hang around here and become ever more infected!

Thank you for the welcome Stoker.  I have 25 years of experience working around industrial steam boilers and these little plants are a lot of fun to share with others.

Whoever that member is (?) had a great idea and it would be very helpful at front and center when demonstrating the power of steam and electricity to elementary school kids.  Maybe they could make another for a good cause while putting some dollars in the Ol' steam piggy bank fund also.

Bruce, thanks for the quick response and greetings.  Looks like we are just a few hours apart geographically, I'm located in Western KY.  If you happen to find a spare lying around or decide to make more of them, please let me know as I would love to add one to my boiler.

I would love to purchase two of those Bruce if you make a batch. I’ll put one on my 20G now and either put the other on the 76 or hold it back for my future 50.

Does the pressure gauge offered by Jensen fit the bill?
I bought my gauge setup here on the forum and have since
wondered if the Jensen offering (A bit pricey) is similar.

The Jensen is the same size gauge and range as the one from SPS (St. Paul Steam). But it takes up the whistle port w/o replacing it. In other words, you lose the whistle.

I made 7 more this weekend, only have enough for those that requested prior on this thread, I made 10, but 3 didnt come out good enough, that's why I don't make these much anymore, very labor intensive with high rate of failure. takes me 1 hr per gauge whether they come out right or not. all are pressure tested to proof against leakage and calibrated against my pressure gage mounted on the wall.
