Märklin Convertible & Metallbaukasten
« on: December 08, 2019, 02:11:01 pm »
If I were a little boy at Christmas time and could only have one toy steam engine, the 401/402 would have to be my choice... probably explains why I have 7 of them here  :D  I've been saving some pictures over the years and have both a beat up 401 and 402 to "play" with, now to find some Metallbaukasten... Here's a few of the neat ideas I have seen over the years...

Nick,
You forgot one! Märklinhouse

Notice it steers!

I need to hook up a steering mechanism on my horizontal 402, not having one really detracts. My Wilesco locomobile needs one as well. (I think of mine as not a horse drawn version.)

Any photos of a 401? I am experimenting witgmine as a tracked or skid steer version.

I forgot to mention, to get mine fired up in winter (below freezing) I steam up my 402 with a belly lamp as well. Once it is up to steam, the regular burner is sufficient. I am thinking of lagging mine.

I didn't forget, was hoping you'd find this thread  ;)

I didn't realize all of them that I've saved are 402's till now... Will have to see if there are any pictures out there...

Spent an hour setting up a worm gear setup.
I just don't have a small crown gear.

I have yet to hook up the chains (string).

Like the full size version, it may take a lot of cranks!

The nice thing about the linkage steering (the top of the cab version as well as my Märklinhouse) is that it is rapid steering much like a Mamod TE
