Gray 1.25hp hit and miss engine.
« on: May 01, 2020, 11:20:22 pm »
This brass tag Gray engine was a great find. Barely larger than a milk crate, it has big fat flywheels and a good hit turning 250 rpms. I also picked up a Briggs and Stratton model "Y" that is close to original and starts and runs great-because it "don't fit my collection"! I'll take it! problem solved-win-win.

Both fired right up when I got them unloaded and the Gray is the best deal I have gotten on an old flywheel engine. Watch it run and listen to the governor clanking as it calls for a hit.

If you play with fire, you're gonna get burned.

Hi Tim,

That is a sweet running Gem, finding one in that good condition is some stroke of luck/hard work.  I hope you went right out and bought a lotto ticket to see if luck was still on your side :-)

Have you got any pictures of the Briggs too? ( i have a soft spot for these as i did my apprenticeship repairing small engines).

Kind regards
Ade

Thank you yozhek! My Briggs are all restored by previous owners. I am not a confident restoration expert. I see my job now as to maintain these old relics for somebody to have fun with generations down the road. However, this latest model "Y" is in good older resto condition and I'm not afraid to tie into it.

Thanks for your appreciation and find my other video of the other 2 flywheel engines I have running.
